Betoko delivers ground-breaking album

Details:
On 28th July, WOW! Recordings release ‘Identity Crisis’, the first artist album from rising star Betoko. Inspired by German electronica, minimal and tech house, Betoko has spent the last 6 years honing his own unique sound which he describes as ‘'electro-tech house infused with hypnotic melodies, sharp hooks and funked up basslines'. Recent Betoko productions have seen him tipped for greatness by the likes of D Ramirez, Steve Lawler, M.A.N.D.Y, Danny Tenaglia, Umek, Ernesto Bastian, Dave Spoon and Gregor Tresher among others; now Betoko prepares to unleash ‘Identity Crisis’.

Beto Cohen is a prodigious talent. Hailing from Mexico, he was playing drums and guitar in various bands by the age of 12 and by aged 20, had already set up his own studio, production company and modelling agency in Guadalajara. Bitten by the electronic music bug, he moved to London in 2002 and immersed himself in the club scene with his alter ego Betoko continually growing as a creative force.

‘Identity Crisis’ is Betoko at his best, delivering a range of styles that hint at the identity crisis of the title, but delivering them with style and a flow that keeps you tied to the speakers. From the lush electro-tech soundscapes of Hoook, Shwing and Voyager Mojo, to the stripped back, minimal electronica of Suitable For Vegetarians, Bossa and Morgan. The undeniable funky groove that underlies all Betoko tracks surges to the forefront with tracks like SSIK, Daydream and Raindrops. This is not just music; this is the personality and passion of Betoko shining through for all to hear.

Betoko was snapped up by WOW! Recordings in 2007, the Barcelona based label run by Amnesia Ibiza resident Mar-T, placing him alongside artists including John Dahlback, Tobi Neumann and Paco Osuna. Hugely impressed with Betoko’s sound, Mar-T set about getting his music out there. The Destination EP pricked up all the right ears before the release of the last single Hoook; a tune which signalled the arrival of a musical talent to be reckoned with.

Betoko continues his love affair with electronic music. In the meantime, Identity Crisis’ is a debut artist album that deserves real attention.
