Details: Following the success of last year’s SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour, February will again play host to Southern Comfort’s Mardi Gras month, a series of FREE ‘credit-crunch busting’ parties set to heat things up and bring the spirit of New Orleans to the UK – for free!
SoCo Social Mardi Gras will visit London, Manchester and Glasgow in the space of four weeks, delivering the hottest musical talent from both Europe and New Orleans accompanied by delicious Southern Comfort cocktails.
Returning to London on Wednesday 11th February at Cargo, with one of the hottest line ups to start the new year, SoCo Social promises to dish out something special. Headlining the event is Scottish electro pioneer Mylo with support coming in the form of rising star Firas. Flying in from the home of Mardi Gras, New Orleans own, Big Sam’s Funky Nation will be showcasing the sites, sounds and energy of the famous party city with extra support from the party-starting Londoners Living In A Disco.
SoCo Social Mardi Gras will draw on New Orleans’ biggest street party, celebrating the last day before Lent. Decked out in extravagant fancy dress thousands of revellers drink and dance to the beat of passing floats all set to the sounds of traditional brass bands and the colourful sites of Mardi Gras beads, masks and costumes. In London expect ‘carnival chic’ with chaotic costumes, flamboyant face painting, neon nonsense, glowing beads, crazy characters, vivacious visuals, tasty cocktails and delicious Creole food, all mixed up with the nu-rave-neon festival atmosphere SoCo Social has become renowned for – ‘let the good times roll!’
MYLO
With his blistering performance for SoCo Social at Rockness Festival still fresh in the mind, Mylo returns to headline the SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour. Having produced the best selling album ‘Destroy Rock n Roll’ and with remixes for The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters under his belt, the flying Scot is the perfect man to take on the mantle of SoCo Social headline. Not content with being one of the biggest DJ/Producers on the planet, the man from Skye has also launched many an attack on the UK and Amercian charts, scoring numerous top 20 hits, the most successful ‘Dr Pressure’ peaking at number 3 in the UK.
NEW ORLEANS TALENT
Representing New Orleans is the energetic and hip Big Sam’s Funky Nation. Presiding over his Funky Nation is Big Sam, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who blows the funk out of his trombone and refuses to let the audience sit still. Having performed with global superstars such as U2 and Green Day, Big Sam is ready to showcase his talents to a UK audience. Between solos and trombone riffs, Big Sam second-lines (a uniquely New Orleans style of street-dance) and gets the crowd going both in movement and in replies to his call-and-response MC-style. A talented group of jazz-trained musicians makes up the Funky Nation, bringing with them the improv-style associated with jazz and the horn-heavy front section a hallmark of big band funk.
FIRAS
Support comes in the form of emerging talent Firas from Filthy Few, who have been building a cult following for their crackling podcasts and packed out party nights which have been breaking some of the hottest UK talent around – expect glitchy electro beats and bumps.
LIVING IN A DISCO
With their now infamous Shoreditch underground raves becoming more and more popular, LIAD have been steadily creeping onto the electro-rave radar. Expect out and out disco electronica from these two London party starters.
This is a FREE event and complimentary tickets can be applied for at www.socosocial.co.uk. So join the Mardi Gras fun with Southern Comfort and beat the budget blues! Over 18s only
